THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. BUSINESS AT STEADY LEVELS. Although not heavy, tho business recorded on tho Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday was done at steady lovcls. For gilt-edged securities offers were firm. War Bonds, 1933, 5£ per cent., had sale 153 cheaper at £lOl and Now Zealand Breweries debentures were done unchanged at 295, which is ,6d bolow tho price recently secured in Christchurch. Tho banking group was steady, but business was dull. Nationals of Now Zealand improved 6d, with a salo at £6 15s 6d, but apart from this thero was no notablo movement. Similar conditions existed in insurance and in loan and agency, both of which have been unusually quiet of late. Coals alono were in active demand, lato rates being fully maintained. Renown Collieries were dono 3d better at 16s 6d and the new fully-paid preference issue mado a current-price salo at 2s lOd. In gas Aucklands had salo unaltered at 24s lOd. Tho prevailing quietness of the market was most marked in tho other sections, with tho exception of breweries, which wore in firm demand. Shipping and timber investments were almost completely neglected and in miscellaneous there was no inquiry. The Bank of Now Zealand has received the following advico from its London office as at the close of business last week :—Frozen meat: Tho market for wethers is fairly well supplied. Moderate business has been done. Tho own market is steady. There is a fair demand for lambs, while prices nro a shade lower. For beef tho market is quiet but firm. Wethers, light, 6£d to 7d per lb, ; heavy, to 6^d; owes, 4Jd to djd; lambs, twos, BJd to 9d; eights, 7£d to 8d; fours, 7|d to 7sd; seconds, to 8d; ox hinds, s£d to SJrl; fores, 4|d to 4£d; cow hinds, 5d to s|d; foi'C3, 3d to 3^d.
