Oct. 18 Tho London Gazette announces, that a medal in the Military Division of the Order of the British Empire has been awarded to Flight-Cadet McKechnio for gallantry, when .an aeroplane, on June 20 last, piloted by Flight-Cadet Giles, crashed at Cranwell Aerodrome and burst into flames.
Flight-Cadet Giles was stunned, but managed to release his safety belt and fell out of the machine in a dazed condition. Flight-Cadet McKechnie landed from another aeroplane 200 yards away, and ran at full speed to the rescue. The petrol was tho 1 blazing over an area of 10 yards, with Flight-Cadet Giles semi-conscious in tho flames. Flight-Cadet MeKechnio, who was scorched, extinguished the flames on Flight-Cadet Giles' clothing. Meanwhile, the machine was in full blaze and the petrol spreading, making it certain that Flight-Cadot Giles would have been burned to death, as ho was incapable of moving.
