OFFICIAL OPENINGS HELD. CLUB AND INTER-CLUB GAMES. RESULTS OF SATURDAY'S PLAY. Several bowling clubs in Auckland held official opening ceremonies on Saturday, under ideal weather conditions. Ihoro wero large attendances at each green, and the usui'l enjoyable games were played. THE REMUERA CLUB. The Remuera Bowling Club opened its summer season on Saturday under ideal conditions, with nttractivo surroundings and splendid playing greens. Club members attended in force, many visitors also being present from town and country clubs, including a Sydney bowler, Mr. Honeyfield. Mr. E. E. Daniels, the president, with Mrs. Daniels and members of the executive, received and welcomed tho visitors.

In welcoming the visitors Mr. Daniels made special reference to the members of the Remuera Ladies' Croquet Club for their great assistance, which was appreciated by the bowlers. He also expressed tho club's regret that several of its members since hist season had crossed the Great Divide, members standing in silenco iri respect to their memory. The president complimented the ground committee and lho greenkeeper on the splendid condition of the grounds, buildings and greens. He said the Remuera Club was one of the largest in New Zealand, and bad the largest playing area of any bowling club in the world. Tho club was holding its annual tournament on January 1 and 2, and was expecting 64 teams to compete, but would still have room for ordinary games.

Tho president called on Mrs. Daniels to throw the jack. Mrs. Daniels followed this witlr a bowl, scoring a genuine toucher amid great applause. Tho president then declared the season open, and players immediately proceeded to enjoy themselves.

Afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies on the lawn, tho tables, decorated with fceland poppies, looking very attractivo under tho shady trees. A programme of orchestral music was supplied by O'Halloran's Band. Later in tho afternoon Messrs. J. Thompson, T. Proctor and H. Clarke, Auckland Bowling Centre officials, visited the green. After being welcomed by Mr. Daniels, Messrs. Thompson and Proctor briefly addressed the bowlers.

The official openinc of the Otahuhu Bowling Club was attended by a large number of bowlers. The new green of three rinks was used for the first time, making it possible for 8S bowlers to take part. Tho president of the Otahuhu Club. Mr. C. P. Downey, welcomed tho visitors. Mrs. Downey threw the kitty and sent down the first ball. Afternoon tea was served by a number of ladies. Several members of the Auckland Bowling Centre executive called at the green during the afternoon on their tour of visits to clubs.

Coultliard, thanked tho Mayor of Takapuna and the official visitors from the Auckland Bowling Centre for their interest in tho club. The club's flag was flying at luilf-niast out of respect to the memory of one of its old members, the late Mr. Arthur Buckley, whoso funeral look place on Saturday afternoon. Another valued member, -Mr. Charles Perfect, also died during the year.

Felicitous speeches were mndo by Mr. J. W. Williamson, Mayor of Takapuna, and Mr. J. W. Hardlcy, who, with Messrs. A. B. Barter and G. M. Reid, represented the Auckland Centre. Mr. A. Harris, M.l'., also paid a visit during tho afternoon. The club enrolled several new members. The greens wero in excellent order, and the green superintendent, Mr. A. THE YVAITEMATA CLUB. There was a largo attendance of bowlers and visitors at tho official opening of jthc Waiteniata. Bowling and Croquet Club's greens. The pavilion and environs were decorated with bunting and musical selections wore rendered by tho Birkenhead Borough Band. The lawns wero in good playing condition and the green superintendent, Mr. J. J. Browne, was complimented on their order. The president of llie Waiteniata Club, Mr. 11. Cadness, welcomed those present. Addresses were also given by Mr. A. Harris, M.P.> Mr. A. E. Greenslnde, Mayor of Northcote, and .Vr. J. W. Hnrdley, president of the Auckland Bowling Centre, who was accompanied by Messrs. G. M. Reid and R. Barter, members of that executive. Mrs. Cadness threw the first jack and bowl over the green, which the president then declared open for play.

Mrs. C. Rose, president of tho croquet section of the club, subsequently drove the ball to the hoops, and Mr. Ca'dness declared fhe croquet lawn open. THE DOMINION lIOAD CLUB. Tho Dominion Road Bowling Club celebrated its 21st anniversary on Saturday. Mr. S. E. Chappell, president, welcomed the Minister of Health, the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy. patron, and also three representatives of tho Auckland Ccntro, Messrs. S. Coldieutt (president), A. E. Whittou and A. C. Tonkin. The president stated that tho club was founded in 1908 and thorc were present four foundation members, Messrs. A. M. Bryden, A. H. Sayers, J. Gulhrio and J. W. Bailey. Ho added that Mr. Bryden was the first president of tho club and Mr. Bailey was a life member. Special reference was made to tho work of Mr. A. H. Yeoman, secretary, who had held office continuously since 1911, with the deception of one year, when lie was president. Tho president said that the club's system of balloting for matches had a good deal to do with its success. The Hon. A. J. Stallworthy and Mr. Coldieutt both congratulated the club on its successful opening function. Mrs. Chappeli then throw tho first jack. Mrs. W. The Glen Eden Bowluig and Croquet Club s greens and pavilions were gaily decorated with flags and bunting, and a largo number of residents and visitors were in attendance at tho official opening. Mr. Firth, president of the Glen Eden Club, in declaring tho greens open, referred to the steady progress that hpd taken place since tho formation of tho club, and said they had reason to congratulate themselves on its sound position. He then called upon Mra. Firth to throw the first jack.

An adjournment was made to the croquet lawns where Mrs. Cr. expressed pleasure in declaring tne lawns open for play and called upon Mrs. N. S. Fox to drive the first ball. Refreshments were provined by the ladies. The representatives from' the Auckland Centre conveyed groctings to the Glen Eden Club, and expressed themselves as highly pleased with the greens. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ROTORUA. Sunday. The opening of the Hotorua Bowling Club's season took place yesterday, before a very large attendance of visitors and members. Gullies were played between ripks representing the president and r <the vice-president. Mr. 11. A. Gardner, in hi 3 opening address, said (hat in 1901 fifteen men met, and decided to form a bowling club in Rotorua. Mr. Charles I\tisahs was appointed as secretary, and he alone of the original members was still a member. In 1002 the first tournament was held, and sinco that time its' popularity had increased each year. The next tournament would be held on October 28.
