WORKS AT HOWICK.
ASSISTANCE ASKED FOR. Special grants to assist in metnlling and surfacing aild the extension of culverts we're sought from the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. E. A. Ransom; by tho Howick Town .Board on Saturday. The clerk of the board, Mr. V. L. Bagnail, explained the need of' assistance in surfacing with shell Cockle Bay Road, which is used by 400 or 500 cars during the week-ends. ' A sum of £l6O spent on thnj, road last . year had all disappeared. Tho load to another motorists' resort at Mollon'6 Bay also required metalling. Ho asked for a subsidy of £2 for £1 on these works. Mellon's Bay was becoming more and more popular, but if a shower of rain fell the cars had to bo lowed out.
Tho Minister promised to look into tho position.- •
