SCHOOL ATHLETICS.
SACRED HEART COLLEGE. ANNUAL SPORTS GATHERING, TWO SENIOR RECORDS BROKEN. Tho annual athletic sports of the Sacred Heart College were held at tho college under ideal weather conditions on Saturday. There was a large attendance of parents, friends and old boys, and tho sports proved a decided success. Entries were largo in most events, and competition was keen throughout. Somo very fine performances were put up in both senior and junior divisions, two records being broken by L. Myles in the senior class. In the 440 yds- event Myles finished in 55 l-55., 2-ss. faster than tho previous record, which had stood since 1910. In the 880 yds., Myles did 2m. 14s, beating tho previous record of 2m. 14 3-55., which was established by W. G. Kalaugher, tho Rhodos scholar, in 1921.
Thero was particularly keen competition for the senioi cup, P. Hura finally winning with 34 points, N. Shanloy being runner-up with 33 points. In tho junior cup D. Burke was first and McCarthy, minor, was second. P. Hura won the sprints cup and T. McCarthy won the hurdles cup. At the conclusion of the sports tho cups were presented to the successful competitors. Mr D. Casey, an old boy, who gave the sonior cup, presented it to P. Hura, "and the other cups were presented by Brother Benignus, director of the college. During the afternoon music was provided by the Ponsonby Boys Biass Band.
