DEFENDANTS IN COURT.
EVIDENCE FOR PROSECUTION
Australian Press Association—United Service LONDON. Oct. 11. The charges of alleged fraud against Clarence Hatry and his three associates, Edmund Daniels, John G. Dixon and A. E. Tabor, were further heard to-day before Sir George Prescott, in the Guildhall Police Court.
Abram Allibone, Town Clerk of Wakefield, gave evidence that Corporation and General Securities had issued a loan to Wakefield of £750,000 in January. Dixon decided that £50,000 should bo remitted in March and £IOO,OOO at tho end of August.
The Wakefield Council only received £IOO,OOO. Dixon promised to remit £200,000 early in September and to invest the balance but lie failed to do so. Albert Cutterbuck, City Treasurer,' Gloucester, said Corporation and General Securities isssued in January a loan of £500,000 on behalf of the Gloucester Council which was to receive the money in instalments but not to pay the expenses of the issue. By August the city had received only £250,000. The applications for registration of scrip amounted to £750.000. Defendants were further remanded until Monday. Jiail was again refused.
