SURPRISE FOR SHOPOWNER<

An extraordinary thing happened vrhcrt a Devon Street shopowner turned on hi» cold water tap yesterday morning, for after the water had run cold for a moment boiling water ran out of the tap and filled tho room with steam. This partieular shop lias no hot water system, a n the owner was mystifies until the explana tion was found. A It transpired that flic occurrence was the result of lowered pressure in tlifl water main from 1201b. to 901b. a squMo inch, consequent on work at present being carried out by the borough. staff in re placing some mains. The shop next oor lias a boil*r, and instead of escaping by the usual way the water was able t<> force its way "back through the pipes and come out again at the nearest outlet, was fortunate that nobody had his han * under tho tap when the boiling w came out.
