ELDERLY MAN HURT.
ADMISSION TO HOSPITAL.
POLICE LATER ARREST SON
An elderly man, Mr. John Barnes, whose home is at 38, West Street, Newton, was admittod to the Auckland Hospital shortly after 9 o'clock on Saturday cvoning suffering from injuries to tho bead and loss of blood from a small artery over the eye which was severed. Mr. Barnes, who is married, aged 74, received tho injury in his own home, and collapsed a short time afterwards. Last evening bis condition was stated by the hospital authorities to bo serious.
Yesterday morning tho injured man's son was arrested by the Newton police, and will be charged this morning in tho Police Court with assault causing actual bodily harm.
