A meeting of the Auckland Women's Christian 'lemperance Union was held last week, and was presided over by Mrs. John Cook. As it was "Maori Day," a collection was taken up for tho benefit of Maori mission work, and Mrs. Cole, secretary for this, spoko of many aspects of tho work. She deplored the introduction of liquor among tho Maoris by tho white people, and spoke of the appreciation of tiie Maoris for what had been dono to help them and of thoir readiness to give expression to that appreciation. A tribute to tho work of Sister Annie,""of tho Proshytorian Church mission in the Urowora district, was paid by Mrs. Cole. A number of Maori young women of tho Akarana Club gave songs, which were much appreciated by the meeting. Miss E. Bennett, a young Maori girl, accompanied tho songs on tho piano. A letter was received from tho W.C.T.U. Willard Children's Homo, in Palmorston North, appealing for help, and a donation wais passed by the meoting. The president spoko of tho Nelson system of Bible in schools, and stressed tho value of Bible instruction for children.
