CHINESE PICNIC.
ANNIVERSARY OF REPUBLIC.
Tho Chinese community of Auckland yesterday celcbjaled the 18th anniversary of the founding of (he Chinese Republic. The annual picnic was held and over 500 Chinese and Europeans visited Pino Island, tho trip being made in the ferry steamer Peregrine, which was decorated with Chinese flags and banners. On tho island addresses were given, one of the speakers being a young Chinese who had just returned from attending collogo in China.
Aftor lunch a sports programme was decided, results being as follows; Children's Race, 75yds: Willie Doo, 1; 0. Youk Joe, 2. Girls handicap, 75yds: R. Doidgo, 1; I. Wall Lee, 2. Apple-eat-ing competition: R. Arvold, 1; Fong Cliou Git, 2. IOOYds handicap: Carter, 1; Henley, 2. Three-legged race: A. Chan and On Kee, ]; Wong Geo Yee and Wong Hoy Kai, 2. Shoo race, 200 yds: N. Doo, 1; Henley, 2. Tug-of-war: N. Ah Chee's team, 1. Married women's race: Mrs. Wcylie, ]; Mrs. Saroly, 2.
