WO MEN'GRANTED PROBATION
Two women. Mvra Heatley, aged 26, and Dorothy Maude Hawkins, aged 21, who appeared for sentence in tho Police Court on Saturday on respective .charges of allowing premises at 5, Baker Street, to be used as a house of ill-repute and of assisting in the management of £ the house, were placed on probation forj.two years. "I will not send,the accused.'to prison at present, but I,will,hold it over their Heads and place them oil probation," said Mr. F. lv. Hunt, S.M. "If they again associate ! will deal with them on this charge and send the younger woman to Borstal and the-other to gaol. .
"Accused went to the men's shelter in Federal Street about 9.30 last evening and when ho found that, he could not get his own way he ahused everybody, said Sub-Inspector McCarthy, when a charge of using obscene language in Federal Street was preferred against Benjamin Thompson, aged 36, a French polisher, who pleaded guilty. Remarking that accused had appeared in Court six times during the year, posed.a fine of £4/ imprisonment^
