OPENING THIS MORNING.

ARRIVAL OF THE DELEGATES.

PROGRAMME OF ENTERTAINMENT.

Delegates to tho annual conforcnco of Associated Chambers of Commerce of Now Zoaland to tho number of 50 arrived in Auckland during tho week-end. Tho conference, which will hold its business sessions to-day and to-morrow, will bo formally opened by tho Minister of Industries and Commerce, tho Hon. J. G. Cobbo, at tho Town Ilall this morning, after tho delegates havo been welcomed to tho city by tho Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, in the council chamber. Many of tho visitors arrived from tho South by tho daylight limited on Friday evening and others on Saturday morning. Mr. Cobbo arrived yesterday morning. On Saturday and yesterday the delegates thoroughly enjoyed a full programme of entertainment planned for thorn by tho Auckland Chamber of Commerce. A party left by tho Ngoiro at 11 o'clock on Saturday morning for a harbour excursion, which included visits to Motuihi and Rangitoto. In tho evening the delegates wero the guests of tho Auckland Chamber at tho Majestic Theatre, to see and hear "The Masquerade."

Yesterday afternoon tho visitors wero taken out by various picturesque routes in privato cars, which foregathered about {our o'clock for afternoon tea at Drury before tho return journey was made to town.

To-day the members of tho conference will devoto themselves to business sessions, morning and afternoon, and in tho evening delegates will be entertained at a dinner at tho Hotel Cargen. To-morrow the conferonco will again havo two business sessions, and at mid-day members will attend tho monthly luncheon of tho Auckland Chamber.

Tho conference has to pass judgment upon somo 40 remits, doaling with a wido variety of important subjects, such as location, cash-order trading, firo losses in tho Dominion, Stato trading, tariffs, maintenance of highways, and the relations between Australia and New Zonland. Notable visitors from whom addresses of outstanding interest aro expected are Mr. L. A. Paish, tho newly-appointed British trado commissioner in New Zealand, and Dr. E. Marsden, permanent head of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research.
