ROAD WORK NEAR CAMBRIDGE.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

CAMBRIDGE, Sunday

About 50 unemployed men from Auckland passed through Cambridge at tha wook-ond on their way to work on tho Ivarapivo section of the Auckland-Rotorua main highway, about seven miles from Cambridge. This' length of road from beyond tha Karapiro factory to tho crossroads, has long been a nightmare to careful motorists, being among the most tortuous on tho whole length of tho highway. It was recently surveyed and the gang's task ia to straighten it by cutting back sevotnl of the hairpin corners and-widening other parts. The Public Works Department, besides finding work for the unemployed, is making much-needed improvements in carrying out tho general policy of thfe Highways Board to mako the arterial roads safer for the rapidly-increasing traffic. The number of men is shortly to bo augmented to 100.
