OUTLOOK FOR DAIRYING.

RECENT WELCOME RAIN.

GREAT IMPETUS TO PASTURES.

[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] HAMILTON. Friday. Optimism regarding the outlook for the dairying season as a result of the recent rain and the effect of top-dressing the hilly country was expressed by Mr. Dynes Fulton, chairman of directors of the Now Zealand Co-operativo Dairy Company, in an interview to-day. The' raiu of Tuesday and Wednesday, ho said, came at a time when it wus difficult to estimate the full value to tho dairy farmers and, indeed, to all farmers. "I have just come in from the Matamala district," said Mr. Fulton, "and tho whole of the country from that flourishing town through Cambridge and Tamahere right into Hamilton is a picture, though a fortnight ago it was very short of feed. It is astounding to look on the hilly country in many part of , tho Waikato which a few years ago showed very little sign of spring growth until well on toward Christmas. To-day it ranks with the level land and stands out conspicuously, indicating the value of artificial manures. The manure war of two years ago was the best education the farmers ever had because the low price of superphosphate induced them to use it freely and the results wero so evident that the dairy farmers in particular realised that they simply could not carry on successfully without top-dressing. •" Everything at present points toward a good season. The dry weather of the past few weeks made .the grass of good quality and if we have further rain within the next week or ten days wo shall be assured of good hay and ensilage crops. The land at present is in fine order for getting ready for autumn crops of a supplementary nature. If we take- advantage of tho climatic conditions a good return should be the result."
