The committee of the public library wrote asking for further monetary assistance to enable it to carry on. The application was refused.

The Manukau County Council wrote stating that it was prepared to co-operate in any action which this council might take in urging the Railways Department to erect a bridge at Mangere Crossing. The Mayor and town clerk were instructed to take the initial steps in bringing the matter before the Minister. The traffic inspector reported that heavy traffic fees amounting to £4OB had been collected in September. The Works Committee recommended:— That all future subdivisions should be firr.t submitted to the borough townplanner before being approved; that sections with rights-of-way should be not less than one-third of~an acre, exclusive of rights-of-way, and that such sections should be not less than 66ft. wide at their narrowest' points; and that the matter of purchasing a property in Princes Street for the purpose of streetwidening should be referred to the Legal Finance Committee. The recommendations were adopted. The PaAs Committee reported that the Nixon Memorial Reserve had been laid out, and grass seed and ornamental trees and flowers planted. Trees had been planted in Great South Road, also climbing roses on the trellis in front of the Council Chambers.

Acting on the report of the Legal and Finance Committee it was decided to purchase more hose and couplings for the use of the fire brigade. The Valuer-Gen-eral will be asked to undertake the revaluation of the borough as soon as possible. In connection with the municipal insurance scheme the committee reported that it did not consider it advisable for the borough to undertake its own insurance. In regard to the widening of the Tamaki Bridge the committee reported that it had no recommendation to make in the meantime.

By-law No. 9, relating to the driving of cattle through the streets of the borough, was amended to read that only in certain streets, as mentioned, could cattle be driven, namely, Great South Road to Nixon Reserve, Mangere Road, Walmsley Road, Seddon Terrace and Snleyards Road.
