ROBBERY UNDER ARMS.
JUDGE ORDERS WHIPPINGS
In the Melbourne Criminal Court on September 28, Mr. Justice McArthur directed that, in addition to. a term of imprisonment and subsequent detention in a reformatory, Eric Albeit Taylor, aged 19 years, salesman, should receive 10 strokes of the birch. In imposing the sentence, Mr. Justice McArthur said that Taylor had \ beon found guilty on two charges of rot>bery under arms—an offence that was beriming too common. Mr. Justice McAvthur ordered whippings in the case o? J three men on charges that included the flise of violence. They were William Thomas Bentley, aged 21 years, labourer; William Dobie, aged 24 years, sheatrer; and William Robert Jones, aged 2(3 years.
