DEATH AT 94 YEARS.
MRS. ELIZABETH MUNRO.
PIONEER SETTLER OF HAMILTON. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.]' HAMILTON, Friday. The death occurred last night of Mrs, . Elizabeth Munro, aged 94, who was believed to be the last survivor of the pioneer settlers of Hamilton. In spite of her great ago Mrs. Munro retained, possession of all her faculties until a few hour* before her death, which took place at the home of her son-in-law, Mr. A. Edmond, of Horsham Downs. Mrs. Munro came to New Zealand 64 years ago with her husband,, the late Mr. Pliilip Munro, in _ the ship. Swiftsure, •, She landed at Onehunga and came to the Waikato, where she had lived ever since. Mr. Munro was a member of the 4th Waikato Militia, stationed at Hamilton. In tho early days of the settlement the soldiers ana their families lived in tents, but later occupied barracks. Details of the Maori War and the hardships of the pioneering days were often recalled by Mrs. Munro in her later years.
