SHIP STRIKES WHARF.
SERIOUS DAMAGE DONE. AUXILIARY KETCH SUNK. ADELAIDE. Oct. 4. The motor-ship Manunda was turning into Port River when, apparently out of control, she snapped a hawser which connected her to a tug 4, and crashed stern first into the Birkenhead Wharf. An auxiliary ketch was crushed to matchwood and'sank immediately.
A huge gap was made in the wharf. Piles, 2ft. in diameter were snapped off. Two other ketches were badly damaged. The owners of these managed to sc?amblo to safety. The damage to the wharf is' estimated at £3OOO and to the ketches at £2OOO. The Manunda's stern was badly dented.
