FIRE BRIGADE CONTEST.
BRIGHT FARMING OUTLOOK.

The annual competition for the Chilton Cup, between the fire brigades of the Bay of rienty, will be held at Opotiki on Labour Day. The Tauranga Fire Brigade has decided to bo represented. Soaking rain commenced to fall early this morning and continued during the day. Tlio past few weeks have been dry and the moisture will prove very beneficial to pastures and newly planted crops. I'caches and plum trees are carrying a fine show of blossom.
On most of the local farms and at Motiti and Matakana Islands, ploughing is in full "swing in readiness for tho planting of a largo acreage in maize. There arc bright prospects for a prosperous farming season.
The building trado at Tauranga is busy. A number of residences, an up-to-date theatre and business premises are in course of construction.
