Tho principal event of tho ;programm< }g the Avondalo Cup, and, with a gooc ' prospect of tho. 15 horses engaged" goinjs to'tho post, a capital contest seems tc Ixi in cvory way assured. The following is tho list of acceptance! for. the various events

REVIEW OF THE FIELDS. . , BY ARCHER. Owing to tha large number of acceptors, the Maiden Plate will be rua in two divisions and dividends will bo returned on the winners of the divisions only. There are some unknown quantities in the first division and it ia very open. Gay Duke •howed promise last season and is nicely placed. Mountain Guide and Measurer have shown a little form and comprise a strong bracket, while To Iloia, Clopton and Neil may bo the most promising of the others. Crime3tor, who has been galloping well, and Fraser have the best credentials of those in the second division, both having displayed promise as two-year-olds lest season. Of the the best may be Catoma, Mauriaena and Restaurant. Soma who may be fancied are:—First division, Gay and tho Mensurer-Mpurttain Guide bracket; second division, Criihestor and 'Fraser. . • Seventeen hack hurdler# figure, on the card for the Kingsland Hurdles, .r.ud, Ihough the class is not stronc, it should be an interesting race. The top-weights, Lady Spalpeen and Waltzor, hav<> winter ■ form to recommend them, and Red Comet would be a distinct possibility if produced in the' right condition. Glena liay c.nd Muster Roley have had recent racing f.nd are thoroughly ready. llarbour View might not relish a firm track and perhaps tho best of the others may be Sir Archie. Sleepy Sol and Wuko King. Sir Archie «.nd Sleepy Sol are both promising. It should bo a decent betting race and backers may show a preference for Lady Spalpeen, Sir Archie and Glena Bay. : ... ■" There ia a useful field .in the Members'Ilnndicap and here again the issue is open. Dave is likely (o be missing arid recent form suggests Leader'..and Flying Prince "s (he best of the top-weights. Lady's Boy. llillikins and Valuo are, possibilities, and of ~ "'Wo near the minimum' the preference may be for Tahoma, Welkne and'Owairaka. Al ,her best' Mervutte would' have a-good thaaoe, bu.t, »a Bhc. is .the. . top of tba Weights and not .T»c«d,ij«c«atly, k.er

prospects are difficult to assess. There will be support for a number of the candidates. and the prime fancies may tnclude Lender, Flying Prince and Tahoma It is anticipated that the whole of tho IS acceptors will go to tho' post for the Avondalo Cup and it-promises to be a very fine, race. Star Stranger, is likely to race well with all his weigHt, despite, the fact that he did not work with much dash in his final gallop. Prince Humphrey has the brilliancy and stamina tp provo a tough proposition provided that' ho is seasoned enough to run the distance. At his l est he would be a strong fancy, but there ia a preference for two better-seasoned horses in Historio and Paddon, who are right up to concert pitch after winter racing. Prodice is a good mare, but might bo hotter for a race. • High Pitch and Singleton might bo tho best of those about the middle of tho handicap, and tho best of the lightweights may be Piuthair, Hyde Park ai.»d The Lover. Backers may be guided ty winter form and make Historic and Paddon the favourites over Piuthair. There are over 20 engaged in tho Avondale Stakes, but thero should be sufficient defections to reduce tho field to more reasonable proportions. Watch Officer, Foot Rule, Lineage and Appeal have all had the benefit pf a race and that will bo in their favour, Watch Officer sprinted well yesterday and promises to make a good showing. Quite a few of the others have oliown sufficient speed to bo worthy of serious consideration rnd some with possibilities are Biddy's • Boy, Cylinder, Hard Words, Iluling King end Royal Ruler. Fancies may take a fairly wide rango and among them to eloim atlentiou may be Cylinder, Watch Officer and Biddy's Boy. An array of speedy sprinters will line up for the Flying Stakes Handicap and tho winner may bo difficult to find. ..Silvermino and Benzora should go go well despite big weights. Gold Money , and JLady Quex aro also likely to run prominently, Gold Money being at the top of her form. As a result of recent racing. Eaglet may bo the fittest of those near the middle of tho handicap, while Awarere, Kingfield, Knightlilto, and Air Kins may bo the most likely light-weights. Gold Money, Awarere, and Lady Quex maj claim strong support. 1 ' Somo useful .hacks will be seen out in the Swanson. Handicap, and there are a number with good chances. Leitrim may be best of those abovo 9.0, but at the difference in weight Indolent and Sea Cob may keep him busy. Motero should run prominently with the minimum and others who may show up aro Prince Val, Arihana, Takarunga ajnd Mountain Guide. Motero may be favourito, with Sea Cob and Leitrim also well'backed. There is material for a good betting race in the Henderson Handicap. The. topweighta may. require racing and Amor and Ohinemuri may boat most of those above them. Maori Boy is very well, and Standfast has been working with freedom. Of those on the minimum, Partial Eclipse, Palmares and Valßier may be the most dangerous. Amor, Standfast and Maori Boy may find strong support.

The outside of the course proper, the trestles being out about 50ft.. was available at Avondale yestorday, but there was i.ot a great deal doing. Several smart sprinting efforts were recorded and the best went to the credit of Silvermine and Knightlike. Details of the work were as follow#: COURSE PROPER. Silvermine (R. Flower) and linightliko (K. Voitre) were associated in a smart gallop over four furlongs in 60 4-sb. They kept together throughout and there vaa little between them at the finish, Silvermine, who had tho worst of the weights, doing just a shade better than his companion. Indolent reeled off five furlongs in 1.7 1-5. Norval Tea running * furlong less in 62 8-sb. Flying Juliet sprinted five furlongs in ).7 and Piuthair ran seven furlongs in 1.31 2-5, tho last six in 1.20. Watch Officer was slightly in advance of Trickle, with Gay Idea several lengths back, at the conclusion of fouir furlonga in 52 l-sa. Watch Officer went nicely and promises to ' bo ono of the hardest to beat in the Avondale Stakes. High Pitch was a shado in front of Waltzer, with Valquette several lengths away, at tho conclusion of five furlonga in 1.6 4-5. White Fang and Tahoma were on terms at the end of four furlonga in 52 l-ss. Lady Quex easily beat' Oration over fivo furlongs in 1.6. Lady Qucx worked j picasirigly and is evidently very well. THE TURF IN ENGLAND. FILLIES IN ASCENDANT. Fillies racing on the English turf this year have boen very much in evidence in the tTTO-year-old events. In the decision of the National Breeders' Produco Stakes, which is ono of the richest stakes for juveniles, fillies filled tho whole of tho places. Major McCahuout furnished the winner with Queen of the Nor® (by Tetratcma—Queen's Double). Lord Woolavington'a Fair Diana (by Jlurry On—Daughter-in-Law) being socopd and Ltidy Cunliffe-Owen's Lady Abbess (by Friar Marcus—Buy Lady) third. The winner's portion of the stake amounted to £'5915. Queen of the Nore was bred by her owner. THE ATLANTIC CUP. • Tho Atlantic Cup of £3OOO (H miles), run at the Liverpool Summer Meeting, was won by a three-year-old named Lumbin (by Diligence— Slovene). The conditions attached to the Atlantic Cup arc somewhat out of the ordinary, so far as allowances aro concerned, the same being based on tue fee at whioh the sire stands, and these Allowances range from-lib. to X2lb«» tho Utter being for ; horses.got by sirea standing at & feo of lOgna,
