FOX COMPANY'S PLANS.

An ambitions programmo of talking films for next year has been announced by the Fo.x Movietone Company. Some details of tho company's production plans were given recently by Mr. Lester Brown, publicity manager in New Zealand, who has just returned from a conference in Sydney. On# of the announcements made by Mr. Brown, was that beforo the end of tho year scenes for Fox Movietone news reels ■would be taken in New Zealand. Mr. g g. Crick, general manager for the company in Australia and New Zealand, recently returned to Sydney from the United States, and with him was a truck housing a complete Movietone recording outfit, and special Movietone cameras. Ho was accompanied by two technical experts, and already tho work of taking Australian scenes for the news reel has commonced. A " talkie" of tho race for (ho Melbourne Cup is b® made before the Movietone truck visits New Zealand.

" Mr. Crick is enthusiastic about the Fox programme for next year, and also about the new developments in the making of sound films," Mr. Brown said. The Fox company will introduce a new screen personality next year in Mr. Paul Muni, a Continental actor of great repute who 'spMkei English perfectly. He was trained by the great Reinhardt and will appear in several pictures under a_ Continental director, Mr. Berthold Viertel. One picture which promises to be outstanding is " Tho Holy Devil," dealing witli the life of Rasputin.

Another film of considerable Intereat ▼ill Introduce the great tenor, John McCormack. He gave up a concert tour said to be worth £IOO,OOO to accept the engagement with Fox Movietone, and he is now at work on his first " talkie," as yot untitled, in hi* native Ireland. There will bo several " talkies" in which Miss Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell will appear together nnder the direction of Frank Boraage, the combination responsible for " Seventh Heaven." The first of them will b« " Christina." Miss Gaynor will also appear in " Sonny Side Up" and Lucky Star." " The Sky Hawk" is a spectacular film of the air with dialogue and sound effects, containing a representation of an air raid on London. There are several revue films in the programme and the " talkie" versions of successful musical comedies, among them " The Dollar Princess." There will also be "The Cock-Eyed World." * sequel to "What Price Glory 1" and " The Cisco Kid; the successor to " In Old Arizona." : ■ "We are very proud of oor programme," Mr. Brown said.
