WHAT TO READ.
A LITERARY BULLETIN.
Leonard Merrick in " Conrad in Quest of his .Youth," has an amusing littlo sketch of a seen* in a public library illustrating the perplexities of selection for non-literary readers and their pathetic dependence upon " the child at the desk."
As a help to this class of reader the Dunedin Athenaeum and Mechanics' Institute has hit upon the bright idea of issuing a typewritten folio-bulletin containing a number of rapid reviews, more or less unconventional, of recent, publications fictional and otherwise. Tho Bulletin, of which tho issuo under review is the second number, also brings before its readers sound selections of old favourites and should thus assist in tho extension of literary knowledge and tho improvement of literary tasto among the rising generation of New Zealanders. a consummation devoutly to bo wished.
