THE WRONG MAN.
An Irish butler, during his master's absence, gave a party below stairs to some friends, and the occasion was a wet one. Tho butler, indeed, had to bo assisted to bed, and whi!o, in a somnolent state, one humourist blackened his face with boot polish. In tho morning, when tho housemaid knocked him up, the butler rose and prepared to shave. When he observed his face in tho mirror he shrank back. " Heavens," be muttered, " slio's woko the wrong man!"
DEMAND AND SUPPLY.
Two friends had met and were discussitiff business on tho way home. 1 heard that, you'd kind of amalgamated with old Marples at your game." " Well you're half right," agreed his friend. '"Wo are in partnership, all right, but wo don't sell tho snmo kind of thing." „ „ Tho other man was puzzled. l!A----plain, what you mean," ho sugested *' Well, you see, Marples goes about, selling a stove-polish that leaves a "tain on your fingers, and two days laterl call with the only soap that'll get it. off.
IT WAS TOO HOT.
Muriel's grandfather had a weakness for s specially strong peppermint sweet, and ono day "in a very benevolent mood ho gave ono to Muriel. Tho little girl sucked it greedily as if she had never tasted food for several weeks. But her enjoyment did not last. Suddenly she took tho sweet out of her mouth and laid it by the open window. "What's tho matter?" inquired tho old man. " Don't you like it, after all " " Ye 3, thank you very much," Replied Muriel politely. " t l'm only waiting for it to cool a bit."
