A FAITHFUL FRIEND.

,A friend of ours was a drover, and sscd to lo weeks on tho road at a time,' taking stock to different places, and ho hail six beautiful sheep dutfs, but the maiu ono was the leader. bo one day ho was driving a big mob ot £OO sheep through to tyanganui, and he never rode. He always took a ci„ and horse, for fear any of the sheep yot knocked up. It was a lovely summer day, and lie had got out of the gig to walk, and must have taken a heart seizure, as he was found dead on tho road beside tba gig. The leader thought something was wrong, so he stopped tho sheep and went to see where his master was, and when ho sow him lying on the road lie knew something was wrong, so he held tho sheep up and watched Ins master's body till help came, and then the sheep worn taken on, and tho dogs were taken back to their home in Levin. A few weeks after the leader was stolen jjihJ was never found again.
