Mr. Charles H. Senior bought fcha" abbey from the Dowager Marchioness '" Conyngham last year, and has. since "re» sided there. He recently said:. "I wouldlike to stay here for the rest of my life, < but after town life my -wife found it vory" quiet, and sp we ara selling. lam very sorry indeed. It was such a delightful'" 1 - old place, and inside you seemed to get';', right away from everything modern back*, to the atmosphere of centuries ago. "The place had been in the Marchioness Conyngham's family lor 300 year*. B»i fore that the Benedictine monks had it for 500 years, and the Benedictine nuns were there for 270 years. It wss Crown property for over 100 years. The abbey has always been occupied throughout its. 1200 years, and Domesday Book mentions ' it. I hope it will be bought on behalf of the Government or the Catholics, who ■ have a strong claim to it. Anyway, I hope an Englishman will buy it."
