OPOSSUM POISONING.
LOSSES OF STOCK CAUSED.
NEW SOUTH WALES COMPLAINTS,
A suggestion which might eventually lead to tho total prohibition of opossum poisoning throughout Now. South Wales was made by Mr. Tomkins at the last Forbes Pastures Protection Board meeting. Ho said that if opossum skins procured in tho season wero branded by the P.P. Board thoy could always bo traced by records kept in the office. This would load to the prevention of poisoning of thousands of head of stock throughout tho State, which died as tho result of taking the opossum baits. Tho discussion arose when a letter from tho Invcroll Board was read. It asked for co-operation in a movement to liavo the sale of Doison prohibited. Mr. Tomkins stated tnat this was practically impossible, as tho poison was used extensively in mining, and no'steps could, be taken to prevent its use. He also stated that opossum poisonors were finding out thai tho poison did not hold its potency long enough and were putting to uso a stronger poison.
It was decided. to co-oporato with the Inverell Board in the hopo that sales of poison would be lessened.
