RESTORING A PAINTING.
CLAIM FOR 150 GUINEAS
COURT AWARDS ARTIST £25

Judgment for plaintiff for £25 and costs was given to-day by the Judge in tho case in which William Sidney Smith, artist, of Christchurch, claimed £157 10s from William Henry Stitches, for work done in restoring the painting entitled " The Feast of Belshazzar."
The defence had alleged that Smith had agreed to make no charge for the work, and then had asked for 150 guineas, only when ho had learned that the picture had been sold for 1500 guineas.
Tho picture, which was painted by Palma Vecchio, was purchased by defendant for £3 at a sale held some years ago in London.
