TO-DAY'S WEATHER*

HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.

Tho following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening Cloudy and unsettled weather is indicated, with intermittent rain of a neat-, tered nature, particularly in western districts, fair intervals intervening, and mainly fine in places near the east coast. Mild temperatures. Northerly to northwesterly winds, moderate to strong, squally at times, and increasing strong to gale in the south. Rough seas around New Zealand coasts, both the east and we3t coasts being affected. Slight tropical influences are combining with tho westerly disturbance on the southern Tasman Sea, and these conditions are likely to causo an extension northward of tho unsettled conditions ruling in the south. GOVERNMENT REPORT

The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—A depression was crossing the South Island this after-, noon, a southerly change and rising pressure having passed Dunedin. A moderate anti cyclone covers eastern Australia. ; Indications are for westerly winds, at first in Cook Strait and eastern districts north of Canterbury, bu,t south-west to southerly winds, gradually becoming general, and of moderate to strong force. Seas rough on tho west coast and becoming rough south of Castlepoint; moderato elsewhere. Moderate to strong south-west to southerly winds and moderate to rather rough seas in tho eastern Tasman Sea. Weather changeable, with unsettled, showery conditions extending from western and southern districts over most of the Do-, minion. Temperatures becoming cold. Some snow and inland frosts in tho south.
