THREE • WOMEN IN HOSPITAL
Three women suffered severe electric shocks when they came in contact with an electrified clothesline in the backyard of a home at Newcastle, New South Wales, recently. They wero unable to releaso themselves, and one of the City Council's linesmen had to go to their assistance.
It was later discovered that a live electric wire had been blown across tho clothesline by a gale. When Mrs. L. McCarter went into tho yard of her homo and took hold of tho clothesline, she received a severe shock. Sho tried to pull her hands from the ,line, hut, could not. JSy screaming sho attracted tho attention of her daughter. Tho latter tried 1 to free her mother, but in turn found herself stud:; and Mrs. Osborne, a next-door neighbour, rushed in to assist, only to find herself trapped also. An ambulance took tho three women to the hospital. In addition to tho shock, Mrs. McCarter has suffered burns to tho hands.
