The portfolio of Minister in charge of Publicity and Advertising has been transferred from tho Hon. W. B. Taverner to the Hon. P. A. do la Perrelle., I'he reason for the change is that experience has shown that publicity work appertains more appropriately to tho Department of Internal Affairs, which Mr. (Ie la Perrelle administers. SETTLEMENT OF LAND. BILL BEFORE COMMITTEE. MINOR CHANGES MADE. L Bl* TKLEGKAPH. —SPECIAL REPORTER.] WELLINGTON. Thursday. No radical alteration has been made to I lie Land Laws Amendment Pill, incorporating tho Government's land settlenent and development policy, as a result of its scrutiny by the Lands Committee of the House. The only amendment made is in connection with the membership of tho land purchase hoards it is proposed to establish in each island. The bill provided that the Crown Land Commissioners in the North Island should be members of tho North Island board, and similar provision was made in connection with the South Island. In addition tho hill provided I hat in each case three other members should be appointed by the Governor-General. The Lauds Committee, which reported to the House to day, has limited the outs'de representatives to two members in each case. Tho committee also recommended that a classification should lie made of all the lands in the Dominion according to (a) whether tho land 'is suitable for settlement, and (b) whether Ihe land is suitable for settlement or subdivision. 'the Industries and Cominerco Committee reported to the Ifouso to-day that it had no recommendation to rnako in relation to a petition of Wellington tobacconists against competition at cut rates by other retailers, as tho petition involved a matter of policy. TIMBER FOR FRUIT CASES. LOCAL ARTICLE UNPOPULAR. [IIY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Thursday. The following resolution was adopted by the House to-dav: —"That it be an instruction to the Industries and Commerce Committee to inquire into the difficulties which have affected the marketing of fruit cases made from New Zealand native timbers <1 iid New Zealand-grown timbers, and generally to inquire into the reason for the preference now accorded to cases made from imported timber, and to report its recommendations as to the best means of ensuring the use of local-grown timber iu future. .
