TO-DAY'S WEATHER,

HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.

Tlio following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-ilay was supplied to us by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:— Tlio westerly storm area, centred on tho southern Tasnian Sea, is very extensive and energetic, tlio central barometric pressure values being very low. Tlio general outlook indicates cloudy and unsettled weather prevailing, with rain in most districts, heavy in places near the west coast and southern areas. Northwesterly winds, strong to gale, and squally, backing temporarily to southwest. Rough seas on tho west coast, especially southward from Cape Egmont, and iu Cook Strait. Mild temperatures, but becoming colder shortly. There are indications for a spell of boisterous westerly weather, southern districts being particularly affected. Barometer, midnight, rising .. 30.05 in. Midnight, Tuesday .. .. 30.00 in.

GOVERNMENT REPORT.

Tho Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —The* westerly typo of weather still persists-over the Australian and New Zealand area. A depression has crossed New Zealand and will bo followed by a' temporary rise in barometers. Indications are for strong west to south-west winds, reaching gale force at times about Foveaux Strait. There is no indication of prolonged southerlies on tho east coast. Seas rough on all tlio west coast and off-shoro south of Castlepoint: moderate north of Castlepoint. Moderate to strong south-west to west winds in tho eastern Tasinan. Seas rather rough in tho southern portion; elsewhcro moderate. Weather changeable with machinist cr haze; showery at times over most of the South Island and in the Taranaki and Wellington Provinces; elsewhere mainly fair, but with scattered showers in western districts. Cooler temperatures.
