DIRECTION OF TRAFFIC.

WHITE LINES OPPOSED.

ONE TREE HILL OPINION.

.A report on tho suggestion of (ho Auckland Autoinobilo Association (hat whito lines were moro cffectivo than domes for tho direction of traffic was made to the One Tree Hill Road Board by its traffic inspector. Ho said that in his opinion white lines would not be of any service on the roads in tho district, owing to the nature of tho surface. White lines should be placed at intersections where a dome was not practicable, such as at tho junction of Great South Road and Marfukau Road, he added. However, in the case of ordinary intersections domes wero the best means of directing traffic, as t hey could be easily seen and the motorist, who cut them could bo readily apprehended. It was a simple matter to cut whito lines and avoid detection. In view of the i'act that domes wero placed on building lines in tho district, if was not a difficult, matter to keep on the proper side of them, provided that tlio motorist reduced speed, which was tho object of domes. To the motorist in a hurry there was no doubt, that the dnmo was an objection. Where several streets intersected at other than right angles, difficulty would ariso as to the position in which tho domes wero to !>n placed if a common contro was sought. In snob places as this ho would recommend whito lines in placo of domes. .ft was decided that tho report should be forwarded to tho Automobile Association.
