SURPLUS OF WHEAT.
SHIPMENT OVERSEAS.
DECISION OF THE POOL.
[B¥ TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday.
In view of the reduced freight rates and tho extraordinary improvement in the world wheat markets, the Now Zealand Wheatgrowers' Co-operative Association, Limited, has decided that now is the opportune time for shipping the surplus. "On tho Government Statistician's figures," said Mr. R. McPherson, manager of tho association, to-day, "it appears that the surplus would not bo consumed in New Zealand during tho next 12 months, and the present world situation enables it to bo shipped overseas without unduo loss.
"Tho export of this quantity of wheat, which will bring a largo amount, of new money into the country, is only made possiblo through the manner in which the shipping companies have met the situation, after negotiations with tho Wheat Pool."
The first shipment is being made in tho steamer Karamea, which is to sail from Lyttelton cn Thursday. Other heavy shipments will follow in quick succession.
