THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

Tho twelfth annual conference of the New Zealand Motor Trade Association, in conjunction with the New Zealand Wholesale Motor and Cycle Traders' Association, Limited, was opened in Palmerston North this morning. Mr. Bauchop (Wellington) addressing the conference, referred to Palmerston North as the birthplace of the association. There was concern about the future, in that it was not known what legislation was to be brought forward by the Government, and the introduction of tho Transport Bill was awaited with eagerness. Fair representation had been given on tho Transport Advisory Committee. A feeling to bo deprecated was that sometimes noticed between motorists and pedestrians. It was an old idoa, but it persisted. The Mayor, Mr. A. J. Graham, accorded the gathering a civic reception. Tho annual report showed a growth in membership from 645 in 1927 to 1398 in 1929. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mr. C. V. Clift (Palmerston North); secretary, Mr. J. F. Cousins (Wellington); auditor. Mr. R. A. Fuller (Palmorston North);' council, Messrs. F. Reynolds (Whangarei), F. B. Cadman (Auckland), F. J. Farrell (Hamilton), C. S. Wallace (Thames Valley), M. Jones (To Kuiti), E. J. Ferguson (North Taranaki), F. V. Lysona (South Taranaki), H. Holmes (Gisborne), H. Fox (Wairoa), R. Bell (Napier), V. G. Clift (Manawalu), E. W. Mereweather (Wanganui), G. Hughan (Wairnrapa), F. C. Milnes (Horowhenua), H. E. Avery (Wellington), G. W. French (Christchurch), C. W. Wood (Timaru), F. Smallbono (Ashburton), H. J. Jenkins (Oamaru), J. N. Armour (Southland); tyro representatives', G. W. Spragg (Auckland), North Island, and A. Wimpenny (Dunedin), South Island; petrol representatives, A. Pollard (Auckland), and J. Watson (Dunedin).
