SEDDONVILLE LIBRARY.
Sir, —As your readers will know, the small mining town of Scddonville suffered considerably as a result of the recent earthquake and the flood which followed. The flood waters reached a high level, inundating the whole of the township, and included in the damage done was the destruction of all the books in the local library. This loss cannot be met from the earthquake relief funds, since it is imperative that the necessitous individual cases shall be first provided for; consequently I am appealing to the Mines Department, the Education Department, the various libraries, 'the booksellers, and individual sympathisers for gifts of books toward providing the nucleus of a new library, which we are endeavouring to build tip at Seddonville. I personally and I am sure that the whole of the people of Seddonville will be very grateful if any of your readers could help with gifts of such surplus books, magazines, etc., as they may find it possible to spare.
