RECENT EARTH TREMOR.
ORIGIN IN OCEAN FLOOR.
THE RECORD VERY SEVERE
PERTH. Aug. 20. Referring to the earth tremor felt at Broome on Saturday the Government astronomer, Mr. Curlewis, stated to-day that, it, was evident that a severe dislocation of the floor of the ocean bad occurred about 400 miles west of North-West Cape. ,'J'he seismograph boom swung over six inches, which is a very large displacement.
The most severe earthquake reported within 1000 miles of Perth was in 1926. On that occasion a similar tremor jarred the steams'- Omrah throughout her entire length when she was 400 miles from •North-West Cape.
