EARTHQUAKE RELIEF DANCE

On Thursday evening the residents of Kara and Kokopu, Whangurei, combined to hold a dance for the relief of earthquake sufferers. The evening was one of the most successful yet held in the district. for many years. The orchestra donated its usual fee to the funds and provided excellent music, while extras were played by Mesdarries Armstrong, Linnel. Newton and Miss McKinley. Supper was provided by the ladies of the district and was in charge of Mesdames Kokich, Millar and Walker, while Messrs. E. McCabc and A. Walker wore masters of ceremony Mr. Fred Baker and Mr. Linnel gave songs and Mr. 0. I). Dawson elocutionary items. Two small girls in paper frocks sold violets and sweets. Many useful articles were given by residents to be disposed of by sale and competition. A sale of goods was held afterwards, at which -£l4 was realised. The Mnnte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Luke and Mr. Sliultz and a confetti and streamer waltz caused much entertainment. The funds should benefit to the extent of about £4O. Kokich, bois de rose repp; Mrs. Attwood, fawn rayon; Miss O'Orady, flame taffeta; Miss Spelner, blue satin and tulle; Miss Luke, pink taffeta; Miss Newton, blue georgette and net; Miss Courtney, black panne velvet; Miss P. Kokich, pink net frilled frock with diamante trimming: Miss V Kokich. shell pink taffeta; Miss McDonald, frilled frock flnmo taffeta; Miss E. Kokich, peach georgette and lace; Miss M.
