WORLD SUGAR SUPPLY.
REPORT ON THE SITUATION.
REMEDIES FOR THE CRISIS. Australian Props Association—United Service (Received August 20. 12.5 a.m.) GENEVA, Aug. 19. The report of the Economic Committeo of the League of Nations on the world-sugar situation states that the consumption since the war has increased 4£ per cent, while production has increased much more, particularly of cane susar, owing to high prices during and immediately after the war. The opinion is expressed that the present difficulties could largely bo solved by the industry itself or by (ho Governments concerned. The present crisis, says the report, has been aggravated by the measures adopted in many countries for stimulating production without taking into account the repercussions that non co ordinated measuies may have on the world situation.
The report concludes by suggesting the desirability of the various Governments lowering the excise duty without prejudicing their fiscal situations.
