HARBOUR BRIDGE SCHEME.
THE PRELIMINARY WORK.
COMMISSION TO INVESTIGATE. An assurance that the £IOOO promised by the Government for preliminary work on tho harbour bridge scheme would bo spent entirely on investigations of the harbour bed was given yesterday afternoon by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, to tho president of the Harbour Bridge -Association, Mr. R. H. Greville. The Minister slated the Government would in addition pay the costs of tho commission which will shortly be set up.
At tho request of Mr. Ransom, Mr. Greville and Mr. Jones, honorary engineer to the association, will visit Wellington on Thursday to confer with tho Minister and Mr. P. W. Furkert, engin6er-in-chief of the Public Works Department, to arrange all details. Mr. Greville the officials of the association hoped to commence business in earnest now that the first practical steps wcro beingj taken.
