The monthly meeting of tho Lcaguo of Mothers was held in tho Manurowa Town Hall lust week. Mrs. S. McCallum, president, was in tho chair. Songs were sung by Mrs. Guthery and Miss Mavis Gibbs and Mrs. Hood gave a recitation, all of which were greatly enjoyed. Competitions woro won by Mrs. T. Wood and Mrs. Guthery and consolation prizes went to Mrs. W. Carroll and Mrs. Waley. Afternoon '.tea was served later.

The Ponsouby branch of the Women's Christian' Temperance Union held their fortnightly meeting in St. Stephen's Hall, Miss Read presiding. Mrs. Turnbull, the speaker for the afternoon, gave a very interesting address on the women in the slums of London. The following resolution was passed by tho meoting:—"That in view of the-shocking circumstances disclosed in the recent Elnisley case the members of tho Ponsonby branch of the .W.C.T.U. strongly urge the Government to amend the law in regard to the protection of women." An emphatic protest was also passed against the Minister of Customs for allowing a brewery to be erected at Otaliuhu without consulting tho Wish of the people.
