HUMANS SOCIETY; AWARDS.
RECENT HELENSVILLE FATALITY.
MEDAL FOR MR. A» J. SKELTON.

The following awards for bravery were made by the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand: —
Silver Medal.—Mr. Arthur John Skelton, nurseryman, of Helensville, for attempting to save Mr. J. C. Rimmer from an attack by a bull on July 10, 1929. Mr. Rimmer was fatally injured.
Bronze Medals.—Mr. Charles Laxton, traveller, Hillsborough, for rescuing Walter Wilkins from drowning at Opotiki on December 9, 1928; Mr. Cyril Vincent Mills, of riimmerton, for attempting to rescue Newburn King and James Masterton and for rescuing four other men from drowning in Paremata Harbour on December 30, 1923. Letter of Commendation. —Mr, Sydney Reid, for rescuing Thomas Welch from death in a land slip caused by the earthquake at Newton Flat, Buller Gorge, on June 17.
No award was made in the case of Laurie Walkley, of Palmerston North, who rescued Joy Williams and Francis Martin from drowning in the Manawatu Gorge on January 31, 1928. The rules of the society provide that applications for recognition of acts of bravery must bo made within 12 months, and this application was made too late. Ifc was agreed to forward a letter expressing the society's high appreciation of Walkley's act.
