BUS-OWNER'S PROBLEM.

LARGER VEHICLE PROHIBITED

ROUTE IN WAIPA COUNTY

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. J TE AWAML'TU Tuesday. The Waipa County Council yesterday refused an application for permission for a heavy motor-bus to ply between Hamilton and To Awamutu, as it exceeded the weight limit of four tons provided for under the motor-lorry regulations. In support of tho application was a petition signed by about 450 residents of the towns served and the districts en route, who claimed that the larger bus was essential, and that the smaller bus now on the route was quite inadequate, especially as many school children were conveyed to and from schools. An offer by the applicant to pay an extra licence fee was also made. The council recognised tho convenience the larger bus would be, but was faced with several difficulties, one of which was that the Highways Hoard had acceded to the council's request to restrict weight limits to four tons to prevent damage to the road.
