The statement that the Government proposes to discontinue its subsidy to the •funds of tho Main Highways Board lias aroiised a strong feeling of resentment among the motorists of Dunedin. Ihe matter was discussed at a meeting of the Otr/go Motor Club this evening, when the following resolution was carried: — "That this meeting views with alarm the recently-published statement that the Government does not intend to transfer tlx; sum of £200,000 Jrom tho Consolidated •Fund to tho highways account. This is u distinct breach of faith on the part of the Government, as the Act provides that not less than this amount shall ho transferred each year, and it was on this understanding that motorists agreed to the 'taxation. This meeting urges all representatives to oppose strenuously any such action on the part of the Government, as it would throw all the liability for the • t/jaditig of the country on the motorists."
