Ono of tho four men who were imprisoned tor one month when tho steamer Canadian Conqueror was forced to return to Auckland owing to trouble with the crew, Angus Chisholm, aged 23, fireman, appeared again yesterday in the Police Court, charged with refusing to obey tho lawful commands of the captain while the

vessel was at tho wharf on Monday. Mr. Dickson, who had first appeared for the man, said that ho would withdraw from tho case. He said that he had almost settled the case whon accused demanded .to be paid for tho time which he had spent in gaol, even though the shipping company had been forced to employ another man to do his work The master of the vessel, Captain N. P. Hosking, said that when accused rejoined tho sliip he definitely refused to work. The other three men resumed their duties, but accused would not obey orders.

Accused said that ho had been signed on to complete his term of service in New Zealand. Ho did not wish to sail on tho ship. Tho captain said that the man was signed on to return to Montreal Convicting accused and ordering him to ho placed on tho vessel, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., warned him that if he did not work ho would l>o sent to prison for three months "Then you will bo placed on another ship, and if you do not work will bo given three months' imprisonment until you learn what is good for you," ho added.
