ADDITIONAL DUTY URGED. PALMERSTON BUSINESS MEN. [BY TELEGEAPH. —X'EEI-S ASSOCIATION. ] PALM EES TON NORTH. Tuesdsr. Tho Palincrston North Chamber of Commerce this_ evening decided to advise tho Government that the importers in business at Palmer*km North considered that an additional duty of at least 5 per colli, should bo placed on all American goods imported into New Zealand, r.o long as importers were given reasonable notice of the increase.
The resolution was a result of a discussion on the re-cent doubling of the primages duty. It was stated that- investigations showed that there was no great opposition to the added tax, as it would nut affect the cost <*7 living to a decree likely to occasion concern. The secondary industries were not likely to be adversely affected.
