SUBSIDY ON ROADING.
WORK NEAR KEREPEEHI
[by telegraph,—special reporter.] WELLINGTON. Tuesday.
representatives of tho llauraki Plains County Council waited upon tho Minister of Public Works, tho Hon. E. A. Ransom, to-day, requesting that the Government should grant a subsidy of £2 for £1 on roading work which has been completed in tho vicinity of tho township of Kerepeohi. It was pointed out by tho deputation that tho Government bad doclined to grant a subsidy until tho whole of tho work, including tho roading of the township, had been completed. This had resulted in hardship to tho county, as a special loan would bo necessary beforo Kerepeohi could be roadod. Tho Minister said ho saw no reason why tho subsidy should not bo paid on tho work already completed. Ratepayers of Kcrcpoehi could then procoed to raise a loan to carry out their own work. lie would give tho matter his consideratiou.
