SNOWDEN'S PHRASE RESENTED
Australian and N'.Z. Press Association. (Received August 12, 11.15 p.m.) PARIS, Aug. 12. The words "ridiculous and grotesque," used by Mr. Snowden in his speech at the Hague Conference, have caused an unprecedented outburst of vituperation. Soma of the newspapers cxcuso him on the ground of the precarious state of his health. Other writers refer to his lack of breeding. La Liberie ironically congratulafes Mr. Snowden upon his diplomatic manners in inventing a new vocabulary for the use of Chancelleries. Le Journal des Debats says the members of the French delegation should understand that with speakers like- Mr. Snowden tact and consideration are out. of the question.
