CONTESTS BY TEACHERS.

AUCKLAND AND WELLINGTON

FORMER LEADS FOR TROPHY.

Tho annual tournament between the Auckland and Wellington Training Colleges opened in Auckland yesterday, when contests were held in tennis, athletics and boxing. Further contests will be held today and to-morrow.

Auckland has now six points in hand for the tournament trophy, the Milnes Memorial Bowl, the score for which is computed by giving two points to the winner in each of the nine branches of sport. A will in tho cricket played last Easter and wins in Iho athletics and boxing yesterday account for Auckland's points. "With a win in the tennis, Wellington has scored two points.

Wellington's win in the tennis was by 11 matches to 5. Auckland won the majority of tho ladies' matches, but tho Auckland men were not the equal of their opponents. Several of tho matches were closely contested, some long rallies being witnessed.

Men's and women's teams will play hockey matches at the Remucra grounds this morning. The basketball match will be held at the University College early this afternoon, to bo followed by a football match in the Domain. Tho tournament ball will bo held in the. college hall in the evening. To-morrow morning swimming contests will be held in the Tepid Baths, a combined executive committee meeting being held in the afternoon. Tho visitors will leave for Wellington to-morrow evening.
