PAEROA QUEEN CARNIVAL.

A SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE,

SUM RAISED TOTALS £1560,

Tho Paeroa queen carnival, whicV has been running for the past six weeks, cam* to a successful conclusion on Saturday evening, when a large' crowd thronged the streets. A fancy-dress and torchlight procession paraded tho streets and marched to the post office, where the final selling stalls „were placed. The three queens competing were:—Farmers', Miss Helen Matthews; sports, Miss Vivian Shand; business, Miss Iris Masters. Tb« result of the voting placed them in that order. Tho objective of the carnival was to raise £BSO to complete the Paeroa war memorial a ladies' rest room and provide work for unemployed. So successful .was the fixture that tho sum raised totalled £1560. The Mayor congratulated the winning queen on her success, and the other two candidates on their splendid achievements. Cheers were given for each of the competitors. The carnival spirit prevailed until midnight, and the function concluded with a freo dance in the Gaiety Theatre
