CURRENT SALES INCREASE.

PROGRESS OF RETICULATION.

The Waitemata Power Board met yesterday, tho chairman, Mr. J. W. Hayden, presiding.

Tho secretary, Mr.-A. Main, reported a. general increase in tho sales of current during July. Tho gross sales amounted to £5396, compared with £4BBB for July, 1928, an increase of £SOB. Tho sales of current for the four months April to July totalled £23,800, compared with £20,048 for tho corresponding period of 1928. Discounts allowed to consumers for tho four months totalled £3156. Lighting and domestic supply accounted for tho greater part of tho current sold. Favourable comment was made by the chairman and members on these increases in tho board's revenue. An improvement was also recorded in tho engineer's report on tho trading department's activities for July, sales amounting to £441, of which £331 had been paid in cash. A canvas was at present being made in tho New Lynn district, with satisfactory results. Progress was reported by the engineer in connection with tho 11,000-volt loop line between New Lynn, Glen Eden and Henderson. Additional street lamps had been installed in Glen Eden, Takapuna and Birkenhead. To meet the increasing loads 100 k.v.a. transformers had been installed at Church Street, Devonport, and Kiilarney Street, Takapuna. Somo discussion took place as to tho board's policy in asking for guarantees before reticulating tho Waikoukou Valley district. It was stated requisitions for tho approximate cost, £275, had been signed. It was decided that the chair-mnn-and Mr. J. Mackie should interview tho settlers concerned and report to tho next meeting of tho board, when tho question would bo discussed moro fully. The board decided to make a preliminary canvass of shopkeepers in Devonport to ascertain their views regarding a community lighting schemo suggested by Mr. 0. W. Marks. Tho chairman said ho considered the board should be prepared to help such a schemo and if necessary stretch a point in connection with the initial cost.
